Pumpkins and Country Bumpkins

This year was a very fun Halloween. Emma was very into it this year. She loved the idea of trick or treating and was anxious to get it started. Abby was very interested in the beginning but soon was worn out from all the fun.

I was so excited for the girls to be pumpkins this year. I think we got the best pick from the pumpkin patch.

The pumpkins needed some country bumpkins to help them go trick or treating.

Before we headed out in the neighborhood, we did some practicing at our house with Gammie.

Knock, knock.
Trick or treat.
Abby wanted to practice, too.

The girls are ready to go. I only wish we would have used this b/c the girls were wiped out at the end of all the fun.
Some of the neighborhood gang.
T0 top off the evening, we lit our awesome pumpkin.

Pumpkin Carving and Decorating

We had picked out our pumpkins a few weeks ago and decided to finally decorate them and carve our big pumpkin. The weather has been so beautiful, that we could not resist doing our decorating outside.

Emma picked a pumpkin for herself and Abby to paint.

The girls painting.
Andy was in charge of carving the big pumpkin. The girls were very entertained by this.
Emma was very curious about what the inside of the pumpkin looked liked.
She got a seed on her wrist and was not sure she liked the slimy thing.
Scooping with the spoon.
Emma was very excited when she finally got a seed with the spoon.
Abby needed to check out the inside, too.
The girls with the final product.

That is one cute jack-o-latern.

Pumpkin Season

The girls absolutely love pumpkins. A few weeks ago, I took them to Emma's old school to get some pumpkins. I thought I would attempt to get some pictures of them in the pumpkins but we all know the challenges of getting sibling pics.

Something caught both of their eyes.

Hey ladies, the camera is over here.
The cars were more interesting than me and the camera.

I did find a cutie in the patch.
The stem was very interesting.

Red Ribbon Week

It is Red Ribbon week at Emma's school and each day there is a theme as to what the kids should wear. Emma has been having fun with it and so have I.

One day it was wear a fun hat.
Today the kids were suppose to wear their favorite team shirt. Andy was slightly worried that I put her in a Minnesota Twins shirt, since his family loves the Red Sox, but I have to stay true to my hometown team.

The kids are also suppose to bring in food for the canned food drive. If you notice there is a can of food in the last two pictures. It was important to Emma to have the can part of the picture. She loves the canned food drive.

Texas Book Festival

On Saturday we went to the Texas Book Festival, at the State Capital, to see one of Emma's favorite authors, Eileen Christelow. She writes the 5 Little Monkeys books. Emma was very excited to go listen to her read one of her stories. While we were down there we went to check out a few other activities that they had going on.

We ran into SkippyJon Jones, one of Emma's favorite storybook characters.

Abby doing some light reading.

Emma all ready to hear Ms. Eileen read a story about monkeys.

We discovered that Lisa Loeb was performing. She has some fabulous children's songs.
If you would like the hear some of her performance, I took a one minute video of her singing Twinkle, Twinkle.

The kids loved playing on the little hills on the capital grounds.

Emma discovered the fun of rolling down the hills.

Ta-da!
Abby showing off her new favorite facial expression.
After the fun at the festival, we headed down to watch the bats.

It was a very fun day and it makes me so happy to live in this fun town.

Emma's school held their annual fall festival and we of course had to check it out. The kids had a blast playing the games and playing on the playscape.

Our first stop was the fire truck.
Checking out the law enforcement.

Emma loved this pumpkin bowling game.

She also enjoyed the rolling the pumpkin game.
